Cyprus has been selected as one of the five European countries, where at least 95% of bathing waters meet the EU’s highest quality standard, the European Commission announced on 20 June, 2025. Sharing this high rating only with Greece, Croatia, Austria and Bulgaria, the island’s waters have consistently ranked amongst the best in the EU’s annual bathing water quality assessment.
According to the 2024 assessment the vast majority of European waters are safe for swimming. The assessment focuses on analyzing both coastal and inland bathing sites across Europe and is supported by an interactive map to help the public locate and identify well-managed bathing spots.
