Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus, the centre of social and business activity. It is also a city of the largest port on the island.

Limassol is conveniently located between the two airports of Cyprus. It takes about 40 – 50 minutes by car to get from Limassol to Larnaca Airport (60 km) or Paphos Airport (66 km).

In ancient times, the neighbours of Limassol were the two ancient towns of Kourion and Amathus, which were affected and ruined by the earthquakes. Though, due to the excavations some of the infrastructure of those old towns are available for sightseeing nowadays. By visiting the archaeological remains of Kourion protected by UNESCO, you can be acknowledged of Cyprus' historical development, its economic and social life in BC period.

Limassol has a lot of attractions to offer in the city and its suburbs: comfortable beaches, interesting historical places, beautiful nature, leisure activities. Nevertheless, Limassol remains more of a business city than a resort. A large number of administrative buildings and the Municipality, the Limassol Court, business centres with offices of local and international private companies, Cypriot and foreign banks, financial and insurance companies, legal and consulting firms, shopping centres, famous designers’ boutiques and shops with various kinds of goods are located in the town centre.

The main avenue in Limassol is named after Archbishop Makarios III, the head of the autocephalous Cyprus Orthodox Church, elected as the first president of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960, after it became independent, and held this position until he died in August 3, 1977.

Municipality Garden

Limassol Municipality GardenLimassol Municipality Garden, situated in ​​Agios Nikolaos area, is the main park and botanical garden, one of the most popular places for quiet family getaways and walks with children. It also serves as a venue for various cultural and entertainment events, which are frequently organized during the summer season, and perfectly complement the park's atmosphere with pleasant impressions and fun.

Since 1961, the park welcomes Limassolians and the guests of the town for a famous local cultural event - the Wine Festival. Every year, starting from the last week of August and lasting till the end of the first week of September, the festival invites all connoisseurs of the “drink of Gods” and those who just want to have fun and to spend a great time. Children's parties, fairs and marathons take place in the park as well when the weather allows.

Limassol Zoo - clean, modern and well-maintained up to the standards of the European Union - is also located in the park premises. There are about 60 species, more than 300 mammals, birds and reptiles in the zoo, some of which are very rare.

Various interesting performances and concerts are often held on the stage of the Municipal Garden Theatre, designed for a large number of spectators. Also, for children there are three well-equipped playgrounds with slides and swings. For sports lovers there is a basketball court; those who enjoy riding roller skates and a skateboard can use the comfortable tracks of the park.

Molos Park

The Molos park of LimassolThe Molos park of Limassol with a length of about 3 km is one of the most popular parks for walking and recreation. Fully reconstructed promenade with a stylish, modern landscape design, lined with sea piers, fountains and green areas has become one of the most visited places in the town.

The infrastructure of the park offers car parking, toilets, cafes and a children's playground.

 

 

Medieval Limassol Castle

The medieval Limassol CastleThe medieval Limassol Castle built over the X — XI century A.D. is located not far from the western end of the Molos park. In 1193, damaged castle was reconstructed by the first lord of Cyprus Guy de Lusignan and the Knights Templar. According to tradition, this is where on May 12, 1191 the English king Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre and crowned her Queen of England. The castle houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum founded in 1987. A beautiful panoramic view of the historic quarter of the “old Limassol city” opens up from the observation deck on the top of the castle.

Aphrodite Beach

Aphrodite beachThe municipal Aphrodite Beach is located in the eastern part of the Limassol coastline and is covered with grey sand of volcanic origin. It’s 650 meter long and is located along the Four Seasons, Amathus and Mediterranean luxury hotels.

Aphrodite Beach meets the requirements of the European Environment Agency and is marked with the Blue Flag.

 

 

Dasoudi Beach

Dasoudi beachDasoudi Beach is about 1.5 km long and is located in the tourist area of ​​Germasogeia which is also very popular due to the eucalyptus grove, running adjacent to it with a beautiful footpath trailing through it. It is a favourite place for strolling, jogging and relaxing on the benches. It’s worth mentioning that it is not only pleasant to breathe the air saturated with the eucalyptus tree vapor, but also good for health.

Dasoudi Beach has golden sands, and clean and calm seawaters; facilities on the beach include toilets, showers, changing rooms, sun beds, umbrellas, water sports and diving centre, beach volleyball courts, children’s playground, bicycle station and even an Olympic size swimming pool. Lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first aid services are stationed at the beach from April to October. Dasoudi beach is awarded Blue Flag.

Kourion Beach

Kourion BeachKourion Beach, located 19 km west of Limassol, has a relaxed and quiet atmosphere and is suitable for families with children. The beach is about a kilometer long and has a mixed surface - sand and small pebbles; the seawaters are crystal-clear. Facilities on the beach include toilets, showers, changing rooms, sun beds, umbrellas and several fish taverns. Kite and windsurfing can also be enjoyed here. Lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first aid services are stationed at the beach from April - October. The beach is marked with Blue Flag.

 

KourionOne of the island’s most famous archaeological sites - ancient Kourion - is close by and well worth a visit, especially for its magnificent Greco-Roman amphitheatre built in the II century BC.

The appearance, architecture and even acoustic characteristics of the amphitheatre were perfectly preserved and cultural events are still held here to this day.

 

 

Malindi Beach

Malindi beachMalindi Beach is considered one of the best beaches of Limassol. It offers a relaxing time on the spacious beach at the elegant restaurant “Malindi Beach Bar & Restaurant”. Malindi is the central part of Parekklesia Community Beach, marked with the Blue Flag.

There are several beach tennis courts, football and volleyball courts, a water sports centre located on the sides of the beach. The beach is also popular for walking and jogging.

Fassouri Water Park

Situated in the suburbs of Limassol, Fasouri Watermania is the largest water park in Cyprus. In 2007, Fasouri Watermania received the prestigious award as the best European water park. It offers a wide selection of attractions and entertainments, from steep and winding slopes to the pools with calm waves.

Carnival

Limassol CarnivalThe Carnival festive season officially starts on Shrove Thursday, fifty days before the Easter. This is one of the most favourite festivities for children and adults, locals and foreigners, Limassolians and their guests from other towns. About 100 thousand people take an active part in this grand event every year. For 10 days of the Carnival season, the festively decorated central avenues and streets of Limassol breathe of merry-making, joy and amusement: music is playing, parades, masquerades, parties are held everywhere. After work people change their usual clothes for bright carnival costumes and masks and go out to have fun. The children's parade as well as the main carnival parade are held on two weekends during the festive season.
